3:30- 4:45 pm | Keynote Address Geographic information system (GIS) technology has revolutionized the display and manipulation of data across many disciplines. GIS technology has also opened the possibility for youth and the general public to be engaged in the generation of maps and to help them tell their stories and to unmask hidden agendas and biases that have historically been embedded in maps. This talk explores how GIS can be leveraged by youth to tell their own stories and in the process of their story making address and challenge issues of social and environmental justice. The talk closes with a brief description of the future of participatory GIS and how everyone will be in a position to create and contribute to maps using geospatial principles and data. |
