Fifth Annual ISAT Golf Challenge

Over 95 students, parents, alumni, faculty, and friends participated in the 5th Annual ISAT Golf Challenge on Sunday October 3. The event was hosted by the ISAT Honor Society and included lunch, golf, and barbeque picnic at the Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg.
Participants ran into lots of birdies, eagles…and even a few deer as they made their way around the course. Thanks to Anne Henriksen for posting photos on shutterfly and Laura Landry of Creative Services for posting photos on Flickr. The winning team at 11 under par included ISAT senior Isaac Hulvey, his father Dale Hulvey (VP for Information Technology at JMU), uncle Wally Edgell, and friend Doug Adams. Wally scored a hole-in-one on the 17th hole; his first ever and the first ever for the ISAT Golf Challenge!
This year’s “Lamp of Knowledge” award went to the team of Ming Ivory, Mary Handley, Bob Kolvoord, and Eric Maslen. This award is for superior knowledge…but not in golf! Many thanks to these and all other ISAT faculty members who participated and added to the fun!
In addition to a good time, the event raised $3500 toward the Richard Roberds Scholarship for ISAT students. Dr. Roberds, the first ISAT Department Head, attended the event again this year and greeted our first scholarship winner, Marlee Najamy-Winnick (ISAT junior). For more about the scholarship and how you may support it, click the http://isat.jmu.edu/golfchallenge web site and scroll to the bottom of the page.
This event is one of many activities performed by the ISAT Honor Society. If you are interested in joining this group, contact President Tara Giardino (ISAT senior) at giarditf@dukes.jmu.edu.
And if you would like to participate in next year’s ISAT Golf Challenge, check with faculty sponsors Tony Chen chendt@jmu.edu or Paul Goodall goodalpb@jmu.edu.
